The beginning was rather slow, making me think this would be a boring read. I was very wrong. The beginning like the rest of the book is rather heavy on details, giving the book a strong sense of place and atmosphere. The story soon picks up a fast and dramatic action pace which had me pulled inside the book till the end. The strong characters and the believable, but sweet romance are definitely a plus. One might argue that some plot elements have been here before, like a deceiving king, a prince who needs to rescue the realm, but first of all these elements are used with an original twist and second, dont we all love these storylines? They just belong to a good tale. Looking forward to the sequel. Keep going Ben!
Dieses Buch hat wirklich alles was ich liebe, aber beginnen wir bei dem Cover.Die Stimmung und Farbgebung läd einfach zum Träumen ein, wie gern würde ich selbst einen Spaziergang durch diesen herrlichen buntem Wald machen.Natürlich hätte ich auch nichts dagegen unterwegs auf so einen stattlichen jungen Elf zu treffen ;DAuch wenn man nun behaupten könnte das, dass Abbilden unseres Protagonisten auf den Cover nicht gerade die eigene Vorstellungskraft und Fantasie anregt, finde ich den guten Zacriah hier einfach passend. In meinen Augen hat Gwenn Danae hier ganze Arbeit geleistet und uns für ein fantastisches Abenteuer ein traumhaft schönes Cover geliefert.Allerdings ist nicht nur das Cover fantastisch.Cloaked in Shadows entführt uns in die Welt des jungen Elfen Zacriah der sich am Anfang unserer Reise auf den Weg in die Elfen Hauptstadt von Thessolina befindet, wo ihn neue Freunde, aber auch Lügen und Intrigen erwarten.Es war schön, ein Buch zu lesen in dem eine gleichgeschlechtliche Beziehung als etwas „normales“ angesehen wird und diese Beziehung nicht der Grund für all die Schwierigkeiten ist, die der Gute Zacriah durch leben muss. Das Tempo wie sich die Beziehung entwickelt hat, war sehr angenehm und die beiden sind doch auch einfach Zucker ;DHach, es gibt so viel das ich mochte, die Geschichte um Zacs Magick z.B. finde ich super Spannend und hoffe natürlich im nächsten Band noch etwas mehr darüber zu erfahren.Und..... es gibt Shapeshifter <3 <3 Ich liebe, liebe , liebe Shapeshifter und möchte auch von ihnen noch ein wenig mehr hören. Vor allem interessiert mich was aus Petrer wird, irgendwie sympatisiere ich mit ihm und will einfach seine Seite besser verstehen.Dann natürlich denn Plottwist am Ende, ich mochte den Herren ja von Anfang an nicht aber das...Für mich hat hier einfach alles gestimmt,und ich freue mich auf die Fotsetzung.
OK. Damn 5 Stars because I can't find anything to complain about. I was sceptical at first. I love Ben Aldson's YouTube but as it happens very often, things get overhyped... Not this though. It was better than I expected! I knew I'd love it because I thought it would be at least a fun read... Oh boy, was I wrong!.First of all: That cover is gorgeous!The book starts right when Zacharia and other young elves from his home are on a carriage (sort-of) to the palace. We already see one of them show their shapeshifter abilities and it's cool to see that shapeshifting is for once not painful and utterly disgusting with breaking bones and gore and bah! I love the idea of shadows wrapping around your body while you shift.It's fast-paced but not too fast. There was never a moment when I was bored or started skipping pages. Everything kept me interested and I loved the world building! The descriptions were so colorful and interesting. I love it when I can read a book like watching a movie. I could picture the scenes so well, it was a delight to read this!The characters were also well-written. I definitely had feelings towards all of them. That's good because not caring at all about some characters is a bad sign.Oh! And the twists and turn! Surprises, surprises! I won't tell you! You have to read it yourself! But hear me: GO AND BUY THIS BOOK. You can thank me later!
I've came to this book over Sasha A. I had no expectations and I am left with pure amazement! I LOVE this book. Ben, you've outdone yourself. It is very well written, rich with details and emotion. I love the world he created and the characters - they pull you into the story and accompany you even after you've put the book aside. I cannot wait to read book 2 and 3. I love it, that is all i can say.
Classic fantasy story with good and evil, nothing particularly new, but still fascinating. Nice to have a classical setting with male/male romance. Pity, though, that the characters don't show much life, especially the narrator stays a complete stranger who just describes what he sees but does not reveal much about himself. He is also quite void of humour or any kind of refreshing silliness. I did not have the impression that Zac is actually a bloke, could just as well be a girl. Completely neutral. His friends are somewhat more defined, but not enough to make you sorry to say goodbye at the end of the book and anticipate the next one.
